Should I go with butter cream or white frosting?
Very simply, butter cream is made from an Italian meringue butter cream. So, it has to be refrigerated. White frosting is a sugar-based icing and doesn't need refrigeration. If refrigeration is accessible to you for the cake once you pick-it up from us, the choice is yours! Go with the taste and texture you prefer.

Do you deliver? If so, what is the delivery charge?
We do deliver, but this is 100% dependent on distance, required time of delivery, and driver availability with a minimum of one day's notice required. We will do our best to accommodate most delivery requests, but it is not always possible.

Delivery charges vary based on distance to your location, required time of delivery, and the item(s) we will deliver to you. Discuss the specifics of your potential delivery with us for an estimate.

How much notice do I need to order a cake?

At Lasalle Bakery, we realize that not everyone plans ahead :) So, we always have extra cakes on hand for you to choose from. We can write "Happy Birthday, Joe!" or "Congratulations, Frank!" on a ribbon and lay it across your favorite cream cake, perhaps a fruit flan, chocolate mousse, or a tiramisu. If you can call early enough in the morning, we may even be able to make a special cake for you to pick-up that day. However, cakes with detailed fondant will need at least 24-hours advanced notice.

What do you do with the bread and pastries at the end of each day?

We are proud to say that nothing goes to waste! We donate all our day-old bread and pastries to Amos House, St. Anthony's church, and/or other local homes and charities.

What is the difference between Italian and Sicilian bread?
The recipe is exactly the same. The difference is in the shaping and proofing of the dough. The shape of the Italian bread is longer and thinner; the Sicilian bread is shorter and fatter. The Sicilian dough is worked harder and rests longer in the proof box.

What do you make at each of your stores?
At our Smith Street store, with the exception of bread, we do all the production work (mixing and baking.) At our Admiral Street store, we make and bake all the bread, as well as do all the decorating.
